Have you ever heard that taking a cold shower every day improves your overall wellbeing? It’s a common source of advice fro Dr. Jordan Peterson – Jordan B. Peterson is a Canadian professor of psychology, clinical psychologist.

I took a special interest in Dr. Petersons video posts on Facebook about two years ago. I found him to be a rational man with values that reflect my own. I especially liked his advice on self care. As I mentioned before he encouraged people to take at least one cold shower every day. It sparked my curiosity… what could a cold shower possibly add to my day? I mean, I considered it might be uncomfortable and a bit of a shock to my senses. Why would I take a cold shower? Brrr. Well me being me and unable to quell my curiosity, I had to try it. During my first few days, I felt a resistance to turn my faucet to cold but I did it anyway. By the third day I began to realize why it’s a benefit to do it. So now it’s part of my life and it’s automatic. Here’s my daily system: I take a three-minute cold shower every day. It is a transformative experience. As the icy water envelops me, I’m hit with a rush of energy that shakes off mental and physical sluggishness. The initial shock gives way to a wave of clarity, leaving me feeling refreshed and invigorated.

About ten minutes later, a profound sense of presence settles in. My mind is clear, my senses are heightened, and I’m fully engaged with the world around me. It’s as if the cold water has rinsed away mental clutter, leaving me feeling awake, alive, and remarkably present. This sense of clarity stays with me, helping me to tackle the day with focus and purpose.
