Embracing the Spontaneity of Writing

By Tracy Schruder

As a writer, I’ve often been asked about my writing ritual. Do I have a dedicated space? A specific time of day? A consistent routine? My answer is always the same: I don’t have a ritual. Instead, I’m driven by spontaneous inspiration.

The Power of Presence and Wonder

I’ve tried to develop a routine, to force myself into a structured writing schedule. But it never seems to stick. I’ve come to realize that my writing is fueled by presence, curiosity, and a deep sense of wonder. When I’m fully engaged in the world around me, ideas begin to flow.

The Rush of Inspiration

Most days, I’m filled with excitement as spontaneous subject ideas or inspired stories rush into my mind. The information pours in so quickly that I can hardly type fast enough to keep up. Characters and locations take shape as if they’re downloading in perfect sequence.

Embracing the Unknown

For me, writing is an act of surrender. I let go of my need for control and allow the story to unfold. It’s a thrilling and unpredictable process, full of twists and turns. And it’s in this unknown that I find my greatest inspiration.

A Writing Life Without Rituals

While many writers swear by their rituals, I’ve come to embrace the spontaneity of my writing process. It’s a reminder that creativity can’t be forced or scheduled. Sometimes, the best things in life are the ones we don’t plan for.
